Whether we are brothers or sisters who stand in the light or unbelievers alienated from the life of God, he hunts us all with cunning.
The enemy who wages war against you attacks me with the same ruses. Whether we are brothers or sisters who stand in the light or unbelievers alienated from the life of God, he hunts us all with cunning. However disparate our weaknesses might be, he knows them better than we do and uses them to against us. We are like dull animals unaware of our surroundings. Unexpectedly, we are drawn by his bait to a snare – willing participants in his schemes. Why do we indulge in his fantasies, over and over? And why does God repeatedly forgive us? We raise our guards on occasion, but we forget to call on the Lord for his strength. Instead, we try to use our own. The answer for our failure is we do not know our enemy. Satan, who studies us and learns all our faults, fell from the Heavenly light into the darkness of the abyss. The earth is his realm and he comes swiftly from the shadows to steal, kill and destroy. We let him into our hearts where he causes discord. The artist of lies and confusion we welcome with no reluctance. “Take our wives, our children, our homes, our plans for salvation! Put out the miserable portion of love-flame I have in my heart for my Savior! They’re yours! And while you are here, take me too!” We forget to put on the armor you give us every day, Lord, and the swift sword of scripture that will drive him away. We are a rag-tag collection of soldiers, beaten, retreating, drawing up battle plans unfit for our enemy and his legions.
