FAQ
What’s your availability given your other full-time responsibilities?
My day job keeps me extremely busy. In fact, I usually put in hours early in the morning and on weekends. But I’ve been able to do that while developing a promising magazine writing career as well as taking on client-related projects. Much of my personal work is completed in the evenings and during free moments throughout the week. If my schedule is too busy to agree to an assignment, I will let you know. Unlike many freelancers, I am fortuante enough not to rely solely on freelance work to pay the bills. I will say no when necessary.
How much do you charge for press releases?
The cost for press releases varies depending on the length. As a starting point, I charge $400 for press releases that are 400 words or less. I am willing to negotiate cost with non-profit clients.
Your site mentions a number of different services that you offer in several diverse fields. In what area(s) do you consider yourself a specialist?
Journalism and public relations are the two fields where I have the most experience. For three years, I was an assistant editor for Kansas City’s largest chain of weekly newspapers, Sun Publications. I’ve written for daily and weekly newspapers for more than 10 years, and I’ve worked off an on as a freelancer since 2000. In the PR realm, I have more than eight years experience, and have worked full time in the field since 2000.
To what professional organizations do you belong? Has your work been recognized?
I am a member of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and the Ad Club of Kansas City. In 2007, I received a Platinum Award for feature writing from the MarCom awards competition.
