A Soul I Won’t Soon Forget

A Soul I Won’t Soon Forget

One of the stranger complexities of this existence is that the people who have the most beautiful souls are often the ones who feel ugliest inside. Likewise, some of the most stunningly gorgeous and gifted people in this world lack confidence in themselves. These are people who need only to look in a mirror, listen to the sound of their singing voice, or recognize the gentleness and love they treat others with to see what they are believing is a lie. And yet their lives are altered dramatically by a pain that feels very real to them. Today I lost a friend to these lies — a charming, caring, loving soul gone from this world forever. This was a person few would have guessed was struggling, which is all too common with these tragedies. No one knew what was happening in this person’s world or what they felt like on the inside. While it may seem like there’s nothing that can be done to save someone like this, that is a lie, too. The reality is we are failing to make the world a more loving place. As a man of faith, I know what (actually, who) is responsible for perpetuating these lies and how to wage war. But whatever your personal beliefs might be, please do what you can to be a source of light. Be kind. Be gentle. Listen. More people need to see the truth of who they are and what they bring to our world. Sending up prayers …
